Why do I need to start with private lessons? “I’m fit and I play a lot of sports, surely it won’t be that hard.” “I’m a dancer, I’ll be just fine in classes.” “It’s so expensive to get started.”
These questions and many more are asked of us all the time. We realize that getting started at anything might seem tedious, especially if there is a set format. And, no matter how fast your learning curve is, you have to progress through the same slow process. We do have a fairly standard regimen that we progress through during the learning process of our program, but we try to be flexible and unique to each individual.
We begin getting to know you, by inviting you in for a complimentary Introductory session. This is not a time when you join 25 other people to watch one of our teachers show off and expound on themselves. This is actually a real workout. Wear something you can move in, and if you move well, and are injury free, be prepared to sweat a little. We will take you into the work, so that you can truly feel it’s potential, and how your body will respond to the work. It also gives us a chance to look at you and assess how well you command control of your body. This time allows you to feel the atmosphere and ambiance of our studio and experience our personalities. Not all personalities go well together. Who you start with may not be as good of a fit as one of our other teachers, or possibly another studio. Never the less, we will give you a solid baseline to shop from. If not us, how will you assess a different studios expertise? We will help you feel the benefit of this work and you will be able to judge other businesses by how much or how little benefit they will provide by comparison. If you feel another studio is more than, then that is where you should work. If it’s less, and you enjoy your experience with us, then we will work our hardest to make every class and private session worth the hard earned dollar you invest in yourself with our work.
After your initial visit, and you choose to begin a program with us, you can choose from any of our packages. Some of our clients begin in private sessions and stay with private sessions indefinitely. Others will begin in private sessions and move to classes after an initial series, and then work between both classes and private sessions. Still others, do the initial private sessions, move into classes, and are happy with classes from then on.
Our most popular starting package is the Introductory package. It is 5 private sessions and 4 classes for $295.00. The private sessions are done with any of our staff teachers. You may choose to work with one specific teacher, or work with which ever teacher is available for the time slots that are best for you.
The most important purpose of the beginning private sessions is to help the beginner become familiar with our dialogue about the work, and familiarize their body with a movement vocabulary, so that the student doesn’t feel behind and lost in classes. We demand very specific and detailed movement positions and patterns from our students. The better the positions or postures, the greater the benefit, strength, control, flexibility, in the least amount of time the student will feel. And from a value stand point, that equates to more bang for the buck. But be warned, we are demanding!
On occasion, a student may come to us with prior experience from another studio. Not all studios function in the same manner, but many times the manner in which we work will be similar enough for them to enter classes safely with only one initial private session. For this session, we do not do a free introductory session, and it is charged at the single private session rate.
Most importantly, all of our policies are based upon each and every student achieving their goals as quickly and as safely as possible. Be aware that everyone moving from private sessions to classes will feel a bit behind the pace of class initially, and that’s OK. Our job is to help you work safely, at a pace that is comfortable and beneficial to you for 55 minutes straight.
And we do our best to do just that.
We are Pilates of the Rockies and we look forward to having the opportunity to help you.
